Yesterday we had an unexpected fun day. I was given tickets to a Minnesota Twins game. We received the tickets at 10:00 a.m. and left our house at 10:40 a.m. What a last minute change of plans! I called my Sister in Love and asked if she and her children could come and meet us at gate G of the Dome at 12:10 p.m. Who can turn down a 'free' fun day?
We met up with the cousins and found our seats. They were occupied by a group of Twins fans, so we climbed higher to some empty spaces. I suppose we could have kicked the seat thieves out of our spots, but I was too tired, winded, and sweaty from carrying Prince Charming up all the stairs. I was ready to sit anywhere!
This gives you a better picture of how high up in the stands we were. Hey, who were we to complain? We had free tickets.
Scribe was the baseball expert. Informing me that a double and a double play were not the same things.
Squire had to tell me that there were nine innings in a game. No, I am not much of a baseball fan. I like the organ music, watching the big screen as the camera zooms in on fans, and people watching (boy, can some people really eat). I was wishing I had brought my knitting or book to pass the time.
This picture almost didn't happen. The boys wanted to find the "Golden Seat". We kept getting stopped by Metrodome staff asking us to leave the building. I had to keep convincing them that my kids 'had' to see the Kirby Puckett chair. We hiked (half ran--with me carrying Prince Charming, my purse, a diaper bag, and a backpack of toys) around the dome to find the famous chair. We lost Maiden a few times because she couldn't run fast enough and had to back track to find her.
After what seemed forever, we found the golden seat which sits between between seats 26 and 28, but is numbered 34 in honor of Kirby Puckett. He hit the game winning home run in game #6 of the 1991 World Series, moving the Twins on to game #7. The Twins won the World Series that year, but it is Kirby Puckett's home run in game number six that everyone remembers. The gold seat commemerates where that home run landed.
I was a little exhausted by the time we exited the building, but excited about our 'free' day. I only spent about $25.00 for gas, $15.00 for parking, $8.00 for water, and $180.00 at Trader Joe's (since we were in the area). Hopefully free days don't come along too often, they get a little spendy.
I didn't know there was a golden seat there - but it has probably been since 1991 since I've last been to a twins game (not the metrodome, though).

What a fun day! I learned to appreciate baseball with my Dad, and listening to the games on the radio. He took us to the old stadium a few times, those days were so much fun...back with Harmon Killebrew..etc..so long ago..country kids gone to the big city..
ReplyDeleteI am so glad they found the golden chair and you got a photo! :)
Sounds like a blast! I did not even know about the Golden Chair.
